Building Energy Resiliency: Adapting to the Changing Landscape of Energy Use in Homes (Feb BBS)

February 23, 2023 (7:30 AM - 9:30 AM) (PST)

Description

For homes to be future resilient, their current and future power needs need to be adaptable and smartly managed. On average, most homes currently use only 33% of their supplied electrical service but as some municipalities push towards electrification, and homeowners demanding systems like in-home EV charging stations, builders need to understand how to better manage power usage in the home.  As the demand on electrical service increases, what are the best ways to make use of our power grid now, and in the future?

This month’s Builders’ Breakfast webinar will focus on strategies to effectively manage energy loads in the home, including next generation automation technologies that are designed to distribute power throughout the day and meet homeowners’ increasing peak energy demands.

Key learnings

  • Understanding energy and monitoring consumption in the home – how and where.
  • Rethinking how we use power
  • Using technology for power monitoring and flexible load management
  • Costs: increasing the amp service vs. flexible load management.
  • Wiring requirements
  • IDP: bringing this into the design conversation early in the process.
  • New builds and retrofit
