Hi, I’m Maria, owner and principal designer at Maria DeCotiis Interior Design. I started my design practice in 2009 out of a deep appreciation for how beautiful, functional spaces can elevate life’s everyday moments. From thoughtful floor plans that nurture conversation and togetherness, to custom storage solutions that restore sanity to a full house, to sophisticated finishes and exquisite fabrics that make it feel like a five-star resort, I believe you’ll never regret investing in the intentional design of your home.

With a background in fashion and textiles, I approach interiors in much the same way I create outfits. I start by considering function and design goals. I then work with clients to define a style that makes them feel like their most confident selves. Often, I identify one or two eye-catching pieces that I center the entire concept around. Then I build upon foundational elements that never go out of style. Along the way, I throw on fantastic accessories— lighting, trim, and window coverings,—details that make the final look feel polished and complete. Much like a great bag or a red lip.

As the mother of three boys, I know how important it is for designs to be durable, hardwearing, and comfortable for the entire household. As a stylist, perfectionist, and admirer of beauty in all its forms, I’m committed to creating refined spaces with special details that take your breath away.

Drawing inspiration from favorite destinations like Paris and Rome, my designs always feature a touch of the traditional. I believe materials like marble, panel molding, trim, and luxe fabrics with heritage prints lend a home a sense of timelessness. Clean lines, edited color stories, and plenty of custom built-ins keep my concepts feeling fresh, modern, and totally liveable.

Designing an elevated home with both traditional and modern influences isn’t easy. Beyond blending styles, you have to consider scale, function, flow, materials and sourcing. You have to know how to execute, work with trades; when to save and when to splurge to get the most out of your budget.

I work with clients who have a sophisticated vision for their home but don’t have the time or expertise to achieve it. Through concierge-style services, I take the stress, conflict, and decision-fatigue out of interior design so my clients can enjoy the creative process and finally have a home that makes them feel like the best version of themselves.
