COURSE OVERVIEW

To be successful in specifying decorative lighting for both the interior and the outside environments of senior living spaces, the design must provide quality lighting and environmental conditions for an aging population. Good lighting is key to creating successful living environments and is essential to insure safety, as well as health and quality of life for older adults.

In this presentation, participants will learn

  • How ADA requirements, foot candle and other lighting measurements, and today's energy efficient lighting sources impact lighting choices; and
  • How to specify decorative lighting that meets the human needs, safety and health considerations necessary for senior living spaces.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will learn:

  1. Why lighting tops the list of environmental features affecting both the health and the quality of life of an aging population.
  2. The ADA requirements for decorative lighting and how to apply them in lighting choices for senior living and other hospitality spaces.
  3. How to specify decorative lighting that has appropriate foot candle, lumens and other lighting measurements to satisfy requirements and recommendations of national, state and local regulations.
