Deep Energy Retrofit / Aging-In-Place Site Tour - SOLD OUT

Deep Energy Retrofit / Aging-In-Place Site Tour - SOLD OUT

March 5, 2024 (2:30 PM - 5:00 PM) (PST)

Description

On Tuesday, March 5, HAVAN's Women's Council and E&T Committee are hosting a behind-the-walls site tour of a full home renovation that features deep energy retrofits and aging-in-place/accessibility components.  The home is currently at the drywall stage to allow tour attendees to see the components of the renovation in detail.

In their 80s and having lived in the house for 35 years, the homeowners embarked on a bold project driven by their need for accessibility and commitment to environmental stewardship.  Rather than tearing down the original home and building new, the homeowners deliberately chose a deep energy retrofit to reduce the project's carbon footprint, reduce landfill waste, and eliminate fossil fuels.  The renovation was designed and detailed to target Step 5, even though Step Code is not a current requirement for renovations in West Vancouver.

The key project team members, which included three women (architect, interior designer and energy advisor) and the contractor, will be on-site to speak on different components of the renovation:

  • Contractor & Interior Design: Alchemy Construction Ltd.  Bradley Jones will speak on the construction overview, and some of the challenges encountered at this stage.
  • Architecture & Building Envelope: EW Architecture Inc.  Erica Wolowidnyk  will discuss the project overview and aging-in-place and accessibility components.
  • Energy Advisor: Capture Energy.  Barb Silverthorn will talk on the deep energy retrofit components.

Thank you to Alchemy Construction, EW Architecture, and Capture Energy for hosting and sponsoring this tour. There will be refreshments and networking following the tour.
