  • This session will bring together BC Hydro and the City of Vancouver to talk about what your 1-8 home project can do to increase its chance of a lower cost overhead electrical service. 
  • The session will cover the new Power Efficient Design Guide, the opportunity to work with BC Hydro early and who at the City of Vancouver can help. 
  • Participants will be given a new copy of the guide.

  • Off the shelf strategies to lower your electrical demand. 
  • How to start work early with BC Hydro to ensure a timely service connection. 
  • Who you can ask for help from the City of Vancouver.

Energy Connections and Infrastructure Manager – British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority

Chris works jointly with BC Hydro and City of Vancouver. He leads Vancouvers work on energy and carbon pollution in the built environment.  His work supports the intersection of high-performance construction, electrical service, and low carbon solutions. Chris’s work supports electrification of all new buildings in Vancouver.   

  

Bertine Stelzer is a Policy Specialist and Industry Partnership Lead with BC Hydro’s Market Transformation Team. Over the last 8 years, Bertine initiated and lead strategic industry partnerships and programs that supported the early adoption of the BC Energy Step Code across the Province. She continues to support market readiness for upcoming code changes, including working with industry partners to support education, training and communications on the new Zero Carbon Step Code and other energy efficiency codes and standards.

Brendan McEwen is a Managing Consultant at Dunsky Energy + Climate Advisors. He has nearly twenty years experience helping utility, government and private-sector clients implement strategies to decarbonize the building and transportation sectors.

 

On behalf of the City of Vancouver, Brendan recently led the development of the Multiplex Electrical Process Guide, a resource to help multiplex builders and electrical practitioners implement power efficient design strategies to optimize electrical service capacities.  He also directs Dunsky’s work supporting the Consortium for Power Efficiency, a collaborative initiative of utility, government and industry stakeholders to advance power efficient design.

 

Before joining Dunsky, Brendan worked at a prominent BC-based electrical engineering firm for three years, leading efforts to electrify transportation and buildings.  He received a Master in City Planning degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focused on energy policy.
