PRE-FABRICATED DETACHED HOUSE - From demo to lock-up in 8 weeks!

July 16, 2026 (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

1 CPD

Presented by: HAVAN's E&T Committee & HAVAN’s Women’s Council

Agenda:

10:00AM - Registration

10:15AM - 11:15AM: Presentations from Babak Nikraftar

11:15AM onwards: Guided tour plus light refreshments/ Networking

Overview:
The course will entail a site visit to the project site in East Vancouver, where the builder, Forte Projects Ltd., will showcase their pre-fabricated house installation process. This tour will be conducted at the lock-up stage, where the pre-fabricated process has just been completed.

Key Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand the full workflow of a prefabricated build

Participants will learn how demolition, site prep, foundation work, panel delivery, and rapid assembly are sequenced to achieve an 8‑week timeline from teardown to lock‑up.

2. Evaluate the advantages and constraints of panelized construction

Attendees will see how factory‑built wall, floor, and roof systems impact quality control, airtightness, thermal performance, and onsite labour requirements — including what trades must be coordinated differently.

3. Learn best practices for site readiness and logistics

Builders will gain insight into crane access planning, delivery staging, panel protection, and how to prepare a site so installation can proceed efficiently and safely.

4. Compare cost, schedule, and risk differences vs. conventional framing

Participants will walk away with a clear understanding of where prefabrication saves time or reduces variability, and where it may introduce new considerations for budgeting, scheduling, or inspections.

5. See real‑world detailing for high‑performance prefabricated assemblies

The tour will highlight how air barriers, insulation layers, mechanical rough‑ins, and structural connections are integrated into factory‑built components and tied together onsite.

6. Identify opportunities to integrate prefabrication into future projects

Attendees will learn how to assess project suitability, engage with prefab suppliers early, and plan for hybrid approaches that combine factory‑built and site‑built elements.
