To many, “Energy Efficiency” may still seem like a buzzword, but when it comes to buildings in Vancouver, it has been both the greatest focus of new regulation and the cause of greatest confusion. Unfortunately, despite all the target goals, the step code, and industry compliance, the performance ability of windows and doors continues to be misunderstood. 

To kick off the 2023 Builders' Breakfast Series, this two-hour webinar will empower attendees (builders, designers, architects, EAs) with key concepts that will aid in making the best design choices for human comfort and product longevity. 

1. Reviewing what a U-factor is and why is it used to determine energy efficiency? What does it consider, what does it not.
2. Looking at the NFRC/CSA labels and the other thermal performance metrics- SHGC, VT, Condensation.
3. European/PH values compared to NFRC and CSA. The limitations and opportunities of each.
4. Impacts of High Solar Heat Gain and the factors that determine/mitigate the extent it will impact the comfort of the home overheating in today’s climate.
5. Taking a holistic view of product selection, component selection, the glass make-up, orientation and size, location on the building.
6. Navigating the standards/certifications, how compliance is calculated, and how to find harmony between architectural design, structural requirements, and home performance beyond the energy component alone.
7. Energy Models – A case study of working with energy advisors to achieve successful design
