Shifting Home Construction, Sustainability and Affordability with BOSS

Shifting Home Construction, Sustainability and Affordability with BOSS

May 26, 2022 (7:30 AM - 9:30 AM) (PDT)

Description

A paradigm shift towards carbon neutrality has started globally. How we design, build and live in our buildings is changing. BCollective’s BOSS (Building, Offsite, Sustainable, System) initiative is an innovative solution for how we can live in healthier, sustainable homes. BOSS was one of the recipients to be awarded funding through the CleanBC Building Innovation fund, by supporting innovation in the building sector.

BOSS is an open-source prefabricated construction solution using an engineered timber-based structure that will cut carbon emissions and costs associated with building a home. BOSS will use biobased materials for insulation, achieve Passive House certification, using 100% electric and renewable sources of energy, and using resilient materials inside and out.

BOSS has the potential to reduce construction emissions, cut building timelines and construction costs over standard construction. To put this into perspective, a 3,000 sf Passive House custom home in Vancouver equates to a potential savings of over $100,000.

In this Builders’ Breakfast webinar, Chris Hill from bCollective will be joined by Sophie Mercier, Principal, EVOKE to discuss the prefabricated system – how to start the process if you are new to the system, the catalyst to create BOSS, and how offsite construction can address sustainability, affordability, and solutions to build the ‘missing middle.’
